Cozy Tiny House

There’s nothing like a shelter-in-place order to make an online shopping addiction flourish, am I right? In the last few weeks, Max and I have been dreaming of the #travellife that we’ve been forced to put on pause. It’s also caused us to be a little bit lazy, at least in the first few days. But, there are a lot of things you can do to keep the daydreaming alive and make yourself feel human again. For us, it’s filling our home with reminders of our favorite places from around the world and setting up a routine. Here are our tips and tricks for making the most of your quarantine over the next few weeks or a month.

Fill the room with your favorite scents

Personally, nothing transports me back to my favorite memories like the reminder of a smell. My favorite place in the world is Moorea, French Polynesia and every time I smell something like a gardenia or a tiare flower, I am immediately transported back the beautiful island and I can’t help but smile. Therefore, I went on an epic hunt for candles and delicious smelly things to fill our little tiny house. Thank god for amazon prime, I can get my Voluspa candle anytime. Not into candles? Look into getting an air diffuser, they serve a similar purchase and are pretty effective.

Grab that book you’ve been dying to read

Now that commuting is like a bad dream that doesn’t seem to be returning anytime soon, there’s no better time to read a good book. I’ve had a kindle since the Oasis came out (I know, huge nerd), but I swear I have not read as much as I have in the last few weeks and nothing transports me out of my current situation like a good summer read. Since we now are working where we live, we’ve been trying to set strict working hours and I’ve been filling my time reading for a few hours after. I had the recent realization that if you have Amazon Prime, you also have access to Prime Reading with thousands of books on your Kindle. Not sure what to read? Check out Oprah’s favorites.

We’ve heard books are hard to come by – consider a Kindle!

Change out of your PJs in the morning, even if it’s into different comfy clothes

I’ll be the first to admit that I didn’t switch out of my PJs for a few days when we first entered “isolation”. After a few days, though, I realized it was probably time to be a real human so I started to trade out my satin PJs for my Lululemon or Alo workout pants (and no, I have not worn real pants in over two weeks). Each morning, I put on something else to get my day started and man, it feels good. Don’t have anything that sparks inspiratoin? Prime’s 2-day delivery can get you some deliciously soft Alo Yoga threads asap. Want monthly motivation? Ellie Activewear sends you an outfit every month for $45.

Get active

When Max and I travel, we typically do our workouts down on the beach or in nature, depending on where we are. There are so many great apps that offer bodyweight based strength classes, yoga, running and stretching classes so the excuse that you don’t have equipment won’t work. Some apps that we’ve used in the past are FitPlan, Aaptiv and Nike. Right now, we’re addicted to the Peloton app (which is currently offering expended 90 day free trials as of 3/24/20). When we travel, these apps have kept us in shape and they’re coming to the rescue now when we have no option to go to the gym.

Depending on the gym membership you have, your facility may be offering free classes online or through an app. Equinox is offering daily classes on their instagram story, no membership required- so check that out as well (@equinox).

Lastly, remember you’re not alone

None of us are alone in this. Whether you’re quarantined with family, friends, your pet or by yourself, we are all in it together and it will end. Until then, there are so many things you can do to stay as cozy, healthy and fulfilled. Do you have any tips that you live by? Let us know in the comments below!
